The movie freaks has stirred up a lot of controversy about what the films true intentions were. I believe that the movie was intended to truly show that "freaks" are nothing more than normal people in unlucky positions. I think that the film unintentionally demonized the freaks, but the evidence seems to still support sympathizing For example, at the beginning of the movie as well as at the end of the movie, there are scenes which show the freaks being sympathized in a good light. I think the intention here was to start off with a positive message and end with a positive message. During the revenge scene, the murder of Hercules was meant to be dark, but was ultimately nothing more than one freak saving another. Also, the villainous portrayal of Cleo made it obvious that the film was trying to portray the "big people" as demons for pointlessly poking fun at all of the freaks and for Cleo trying to kill Hans like he was some creature just for his money.
